What is the CA ERC?
The California Ethnobotanical Research Center is an organization of professional and non-professional scientists interested in the research of the culturally or economically significant plants within the California Floristic Province
If you want to preserve the significance of locations, then why do you take samples?
On occasion, small specimens are taken for research purposes. Upon completion, these are donated to museums, returned to the area they were taken from, or stored for future research.
How are you funded?
We are currently working to apply for non-profit status. Most funding comes from membership fees, monetary gifts, and our own pockets.
Are you another political activist group?
No. From the very beginning it was made clear between the founders that this would under no circumstances be involved in politics of any kind. We are here to learn and share knowledge. Science is truth. Truth is not effected by politics. Neither is the CA ERC. However, members and founders are of course able to participate in whatever they choose, outside of CA ERC.
How do I join?
Currently, we are not welcoming new members. However, by filling out our contact page, you may be placed on a waitlist when applications are re opened.
How do I donate?
Donations are welcomed! We currently accept donations through PayPal. Please email contact@ca-erc.org for more information. At the moment, these donations are NOT tax deductible, but we are working to remedy that.
Do you accept paid research requests?
Yes! If you have a specific area you want to research but can’t do it yourself, you may hire CRAG to take on an expedition to the area. Our fees vary but are reasonable. We only ask our actual expenses (fuel, food, etc) be covered, plus a small amount to put toward future research.
Will you check out a place I suggest?
We’re always looking for new areas to explore! Make a suggestion at our contact page and we will add it to our list of future expeditions.
